Paying it Forward

Today my friend and colleague came to visit from Austin Texas for an upcoming conference. We met for lunch in NYC then had dinner on the Jersey Shore with my husband and son.

When I went to pay the bill, our server told us that our bill had already been paid for by a couple having dinner near us. This couple made a point of telling the waitress not to tell us until after they had left. This couple were not locals so I couldn’t try to find out where they were from to go and thank them and tell them what it meant to us.

They may have seen how nicely my autistic son was sitting at dinner - a child who a few months ago could not even sit down to eat a snack let alone sit down for dinner and listen to a loud band. Either way, this act of kindness made our night and reminded me how kind people can actually be.

I intend to pay it forward myself next time I have the opportunity to make a stranger feel the way I felt tonight. ❤️ 🙏
